Unified eResearch Platform: Strategic Integration of REANNZ and NeSI
At Newmarket Innovation Precinct, a strategic investment establishes a unified eResearch platform—a collaboration blending high-speed fibre, advanced computing, and next-generation AI capability.
A significant strategic advancement has been achieved for New Zealand’s digital research infrastructure following the announcement by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) regarding the integration of REANNZ and NeSI. This consolidation will establish a unified national eResearch infrastructure platform, directly enhancing the digital capability available to researchers and co-locating companies at the Newmarket Innovation Precinct (NIP).
$69.65 Million Investment in Digital Tools
REANNZ, which has been based at the Newmarket Innovation Precinct (NIP) since 2024, now combines its high-speed fibre network with NeSI’s advanced computing and data services.
This robust $69.65 million, five-year investment will be strategically directed toward delivering world-class resources for researchers across Aotearoa, including:
- Powerful digital tools.
- High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms.
- Crucial AI capability development.
The resulting integrated platform ensures that NIP researchers and industry collaborators have access to a world-class digital backbone necessary to tackle complex, data-intensive challenges and accelerate the development of globally relevant technologies.
The Newmarket Innovation Precinct (NIP) connects industry professionals with University of Auckland researchers and technical experts. Our R&D community collaborates especially on high-risk challenges with the potential to create new technologies.
